Two's Room
The Twos program offers a special environment that continually nurtures and develops the younger preschooler. Twos are not quite as far along in some areas as 3- to 4-year-olds, but are further than younger 13-month-olds to 24-month-old youngsters of the Toddler group.
The emphasis of our Twos program is: Hands On! The room is equipped with a dramatic play area, blocks, puzzles, a library/book corner, art, water play, tactile activities, cooking projects, occasional Fun Friday Activities, neighborhood and local field trips as well as plenty of free-choice play. We give special attention to language development and socialization. We also work with the children on developing their independence with self-help and problem solving skills, and if a child is ready, potty training.
A major goal of the Twos Program is to guide children to a continued positive self-image while building social skills in a school setting. Sensory, motor, perceptual and language skills are promoted through activities which are both child-centered and teacher-directed. Curriculum is planned carefully and weaves together music, reading, listening, and play, all emphasizing the process rather than the end product to foster a sense of accomplishment and pride. We help children experience success without pressure by letting each child grow and learn at his or her own pace.
